Going the Distance
to Nourish Futures

The Extra Mile Program is a home delivery style distribution designed to help decrease transportation and stigma barriers of food insecure children and their families. With a human centered design, each distribution is designed around the family’s needs with a goal of containing as much fresh food as possible. This innovative new program was identified and awarded the Innovation Lab award in conjunction with Save the Children and Baylor University for it’s potential for reaching families with children in rural communities in 2023.

MFB partners with DoorDash when available to help go the “Extra Mile” for delivery at a discounted rate. When DoorDash isn’t available in an area, we partner with the county school board to secure staff to be delivery drivers. Once the delivery method is determined, MFB and the county BOE select 1-3 pick-up locations (typically schools) within the county to set up, pack boxes and meet the delivery drivers. The delivery drivers pick-up and deliver the food boxes in a bird’s eye radius of 10 miles from each location
