Hunger in West Virginia

Hunger affects communities across West Virginia—often in ways that are not immediately visible.

Food insecurity is defined by the USDA as limited or uncertain access to enough nutritious food for an active, healthy life. Families experiencing food insecurity may not struggle every day, but many are forced to make difficult choices between buying food and covering essential needs like housing, utilities, or medical care.

In West Virginia, 270,000 people face hunger, including 73,650 children. These numbers represent neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and families in communities across the Mountain State.

How You Can Help

Ending hunger takes collective action. There are many ways to make a difference and support neighbors in need.

Take Action

You can help by donating funds, donating food, or volunteering your time. Every contribution—large or small—helps ensure families have access to nutritious meals.
